End of Life Decisions: Ethics and Legalities
Are organ donors at risk of being pronounced brain dead and discontinued life-support prematurely? Is withdrawing care for people in vegetative states killing? Is “merciful killing” ethical? Should euthanasia and assisted suicide be legal? Dr. Magsi and Dr. Day will lead a conversation on the challenges of end-of-life decisions at the intersection of ethics and the law.

Rayan Magsi, MD received a BS in neuroscience from the Ohio State University followed by his MD from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. He is currently a Resident Physician in the Department of Neurology at the University of Toledo. He has a special interest in ethics as it relates to neuroscience and neurology. He is currently working on a project in the realm of brain death ethics with Dr. Nina Atanasova.
Ally Day is an Associate Professor of Disability Studies at the University of Toledo. Her book, The Political Economy of Stigma: HIV, Memoir and Crip Positionalities (The Ohio State University Press 2021) addresses the complicated interactions between those living with HIV and AIDS Service providers. She is currently working on her second book project, Gestational Ableism: Disability, Pregnancy and Radical Crip Futures.
