Toledo Lucas County Public Library, in partnership with the Italian Bowl, presents Playing for Pizza, a panel discussion with John Grisham.
The Toledo Lucas County Public Library is excited to celebrate the upcoming Italian Bowl taking place on Saturday, July 1. In honor of this special event, your Library is partnering with the Italian Bowl to host a panel discussion featuring the work of New York Times Best Selling Author John Grisham and his book, Playing for Pizza. The panel will also feature professional football players Nick Eyde, Kris Durham, and James Starks.
About the Event:
John Grisham and Kris Durham will join us virtually, with Nick Eyde and James Starks attending in person. This free event does require advance registration. Up to 40 lucky attendees will receive a limited-edition Italian Bowl poster at the event!
About the Book, Playing for Pizza:
After providing what is arguably the worst single performance in the history of the NFL, third-string quarterback Rick Dockery becomes a national laughingstock. Cut by the Cleveland Browns and shunned by every other team, Rick insists that his agent find a team that does need him.
About the Author, John Grisham:
John Grisham is the author of forty-seven consecutive #1 bestsellers, which have been translated into nearly fifty languages. His recent books include The Boys From Biloxi, The Judge's List, Sooley, and his third Jake Brigance novel, A Time for Mercy, which HBO is developing as a limited series.
Grisham is a two-time Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction winner and was honored with the Library of Congress Creative Achievement Award for Fiction.
About the Italian Bowl:
The 42nd Italian Bowl is coming to Toledo’s Glass Bowl Stadium on Saturday, July 1, 2023. The game will mark the first time in Italian Football League (IFL) history that Italy’s national championship will be played outside of Europe.
The first official Italian Football Season dates back to 1980, over 40 years ago. The Italian Federation of American Football (FIDAF) has the official mandate to promote football in Italy and regulate the legitimacy of all games played during the regular season, playoffs, and finals. Nowadays, FIDAF has about 100 affiliated teams counting more than 10,000 male and female athletes who compete in tackle and flag football leagues within a spectrum of various age brackets (youth and senior championships).
The XLII Italian Bowl will be a key element of Toledo, Ohio’s Fourth of July weekend festivities in 2023.
