Discerning Truth in News and Other Media
Monday, April 22
5:30pm - 7:30pm
Main Library
McMaster Center and Lobby, 2nd FloorThis class was designed around the fact that in recent years, citizens' opinions have become polarized due to news and other social media information available - the Left/Right Divide.
It appears that the current discourse involving matters of political opinions are running towards the extremes with many people, especially those of the voting electorate. This 3-part presentation will explore how humans learn reality, how our senses fool us, relate common methods used to manipulate understanding, and how to determine what is true. The purpose of this presentation is to address ways which help people to move their opinions towards that center point whereby constructive dialog can take place and positive solutions to challenges can evolve. Presented by John Krochmalny, Huse Torrence Institute in conjunction with the Multifaith Council of Northwest Ohio and the League of Women Voters of Toledo-Lucas County.
