12:30-1:30pm The Short Life of the DAVID DOWS, presented by local author Kenneth Dickson
This is the story of a vessel, launched in 1881, that was once the largest five master schooner in the world. The ship would have less than seven years to prove its place in the annals of Great Lakes history before it sunk. Come with us, as the DAVID DOWS embarks from the Maumee River’s Wabash Grain Elevator one last time.
1:30-2:30pm Style Show: Votes for Women: The Suffrage Movements Impact on Apparel
Come see a style show centered around the “Suffragette” movement and how it influenced daily life. Both Edwardian men and women’s apparel will be featured as we look back and celebrate the passing of the 19th Amendment, that gave American women the right to vote.
2:30-3:30pm Toledo Baseball Heroes, presented by John Husman
Since professional baseball’s Toledo debut in 1883 the city has enjoyed watching many diamond heroes. Join us as we learn about four of them from the Toledo Mudhen’s official historian.
3:30-4:15pm Documentary: The Storied Life of Millie Benson
This film recounts the inspiring life story of author, reporter and adventurer Mildred Wirt Benson. Benson, who died in 2002 at the age of 96, is better known as Carolyn Keene, the ghostwriter of the first 23 Nancy Drew mysteries. It is an inspirational story for viewers of all ages, particularly for avid Nancy Drew fans. The program features contemporary video, archival films and photographs, interviews, and commentary by literary experts and family members who knew her best.
