A tribute to the history and design of Main Library's Vitrolite Murals.
Did you know that one of the best Art Deco art installations in Toledo was made of glass? Main Library is home to a remarkable display of glass mosaic murals called Vitrolite, a popular product of the Libbey Owens Ford Company in the 1930 and 1940s. Follow the exhibition (and optional self-guided audio tour) from the Central Court, beyond the Wintergarden, and then into the Children's Library. You will gain a greater appreciation for the design, installation, and preservation of this unique glass and understand why people visit Main Library from all over the world.
