During summer Red Bird District First Friday Art Walks in Downtown Sylvania, the Library and Heritage Sylvania are leading historical walking tours to help the community reconnect with the past.
Exploring the Past: Historic Sylvania Walking Tours
All tours begin at 6:00pm (and last 45min. - 1hr.)
June 7 - Location: Lathrop House / Beginning at Lathrop House guests will tour through Ravine Park and Harroun Barn, retracing the path escaped enslaved people took through Sylvania. We’ll start at the Lathrop House to learn a bit about the Underground Railroad in our area, and then take a walking tour through the ravine and to the Harroun Barn with Sue McHugh, site manager of the Lathrop House.
July 5 / Location: Heritage Center Museum / Join us at the Heritage Center Museum/Cooke Home for a walking discovery tour of downtown Sylvania. Led by Dr. Ted Ligibel and other local experts, we’ll discover some of the hidden architectural gems in our neighborhood and hear some stories about our downtown’s past.
August 2 / Location: Heritage Sylvania Historical Village / Led by Andi Erbskorn Executive Director of Heritage Sylvania, take a guided tour of the Historical Village. See the interior of the buildings and learn more about the history we share with our school groups and also the history of the Historical Village. The tour will meet at the Entrance to the Historical Village at 6:00 pm.
September 6 / Location: Downtown Sylvania Library / Dr. Ted Ligibel will help you discover more about the history of the commercial area around the Library and Historic Downtown Sylvania. Learn how the railroad impacted our development and some of the great architectural treasures of our downtown. The tour leaves at 6:00 from the Sylvania Branch Library.
