Street photographs taken in various U.S. cities with vintage Rolleiflex cameras by self-taught photographers dirtykics and Katie Midgley. Film and prints developed by hand in house.
Statements:
dirtykics: I live under the courage of the camera and the idea that the picture reflects my spirit. Working towards a type of intimacy that encourages unbiased observation and reflection, I raise my camera to speak to the naked eye of the audience and express what I cannot; what the subject itself cannot. To do this I must challenge myself to be extroverted with people, places and things. I'm not afraid to share my fear of failure but I am reluctant to share my desire for success.
Katie: I picked up my Rolleiflex camera purely by chance; the grandmother of a coworker was in need of some cash and I had my heart set on learning to shoot film. Over the past year, I've used my camera to document the people of Las Vegas, San Francisco, Chicago, New York and Mallorca, Spain. Travel has always been my passion, but my camera gives me an added incentive to see the world through a different lens.
