Words have power! This fun workshop series is designed to inspire older adults to write poetry by giving voice to their thoughts, emotions and experiences and using the genre as a vehicle of change.

This is an eight-week course and attendance is necessary at each session, as the information will build on previous sessions.

Words have power! This fun workshop series is designed to engage and inspire older adults to write poetry by giving voice to their thoughts, emotions and experiences and using the genre as a vehicle of change. Participants will be led through prompts that trigger the senses, poetic forms, devices, and read and explore the work of other poets. This eight-week experience will culminate in a Poetry Café where participants share their poetry during a community showcase.

This course is funded by Creative Aging Ohio and presented by Sandra Rivers-Gill. Sandra Rivers-Gill is an award-winning poet, playwright, and performer in Toledo, Ohio. She has served as a teaching artist for Naomi Inc, a non-profit and treatment facility for women in recovery and the Otterbein Senior Living Communities. Her poetry is influenced by family, community, and social justice, and has been featured in numerous literary print journals, online and in anthologies. Her debut poetry collection, As We Cover Ourselves With Light, was a finalist for the 2024 Eric Hoffer Book Award.
