Mixed Media: This exhibit shares with the community the abilities of those that may have disabilities but also possess great capabilities in the creation and expression of art.
This exhibit was created by the artists of Sunshine Studios. The studio in Uptown Maumee is part of Sunshine Communities, which since 1950, has supported people with developmental disabilities. Resident artists are part of Sunshine's supported employment program, working weekdays in the Creative Center and Clay Room to create their own designs or fill custom orders. Their creations are on display and for sale in the studio's gallery along with the work of local artists in various media. The studio also offers open art classes, studio time and rental space for the entire community.
The collection includes various media including acrylic canvas, slab-built and wheel thrown items and mold-cast pieces. Pieces were completed with a variety of brushwork techniques in airbrushing, under-glazing and glaze layering.
